Reflections

For there is no other name under heaven that
has been given among men, by which we must be saved.
                                                                Acts 4:12

Do you believe you are good enough to go to heaven? The bible tells us in (Isaiah 64:6) “All our  righteous acts are like filthy rags.” Moreover (Psalms 14:3 ) Tells us that “There is no one who does good not even one.” Showing us that our own goodness is not good enough to be acceptable to God.

You may well ask what are we to do?  We need a saviour!

People go to churches for many reasons. Not all people who go to church are Christians. Many who go to church think themselves to be good people and they probably are by human standards. Sadly they think because they  go to church every Sunday, they will automatically go to heaven and spend eternity there. Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian: neither does hanging around with Christians, singing  Carols at Christmas time, being nice to your neighbour,  paying your taxes. Although all these things are good in themselves, its not a sure way to get to  heaven; there is only one way.

So what is the way?  We are told in the bible of  the wedding guest who was thrown out of the celebrations for being  inappropriately dressed, matt 22:11-13. What does that tell us?

What it is saying is, to get into the kingdom of God you must be wearing the proper clothes, in other words the garments of salvation. The robes of righteousness given to us by Jesus, when we receive him as our personal lord and saviour.( John 3:16 says): “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” Jesus is the only way we can get into the kingdom of God.

We do not get saved by our own righteousness, but by him who has called us out of the darkness into his marvellous light. (2 Peter 2:9.) It is a common assumption, by those who do not know God, that we get to heaven by our own goodness. Note what the scripture says his “marvellous light.” His light shows us up for what we are, imperfect human beings, needing a saviour. Our saviour longs to exchange our own self righteousness; for his perfect righteousness.

God has given a personal invitation to you to come and meet with Jesus his son: get to know him as your personal saviour, he is worth getting to know, he is your life now and in all eternity.

If you  follow Jesus, you won’t miss the way.
Jesus will be the author, of all you think and say.
Living in his marvellous light, the way will be made  clear
know where you are going, without dread or fear
Let him be the saviour, of all that you’ve done wrong
Your free to live, just for him and to him belong
Jesus will not leave you, he’s promised to be there
His hand will guide and keep you, always in his  care.
