With the new school term now underway, Cornerstone House Centre is providing a well-earned free movie treat for adults later this week with a special screening of the modern classic ‘The Greatest Showman’ in Cumbernauld town centre.
Following recent showings of Pillow Talk, Some Like It Hot, Singin’ In The Rain, Mamma Mia!, Calamity Jane and That Touch of Mink, Cumbernauld Family Hub will be beaming the popular 2017 Hugh Jackman musical drama on a large cinema screen on Friday 26 August 2022 at 1.30pm at Cornerstone House (1 Esk Walk, Cumbernauld, G67 1BZ).
The Greatest Showman, based on the life and story of PT Barnum, follows the plot of a famous entertainer and his creation of the Barnum and Bailey Circus and the lives of its star attractions. The film has been acclaimed for the powerful and worthwhile messages it portrays, including values of acceptance and respect.
As with previous Movie Days, places will be allocated on a first come first served basis and must be booked in advance by emailing events@cornerstone-house.org.uk. Please state in your email how many adults will be attending and if you have any special requirements.
Cumbernauld Family Hub, supported by The National Lottery Community Fund, provides a fresh and innovative family support resource for the Cumbernauld area, incorporating a range of activities which create interesting and unique personal development opportunities for local families.
The Family Hub has supported over 300 parents and children since its establishment in 2017, and has been successful in helping create bonds between people facing similar problems and building bridges that assist understanding and interaction in relation to family development. It has also helped families to set goals and promote confidence that their aspirations can be achieved.
Last year, as part of Cumbernauld Family Hub, Cornerstone House was fitted with a contemporary digital cinema projection screen which can be utilised by organisations and individuals across Greater Cumbernauld for community purposes.
Movie Days for children and adults have been a successful part of the project during over the past five years. Mary McNeil, Development Manager at Cornerstone House Centre, commented:
“With families feeling the effects of inflation and ever-rising prices, a trip to the cinema is unfortunately not as affordable as it used to be for people living in Cumbernauld, Kilsyth and surrounding villages, especially with the nearest cinemas being located in Glasgow, Coatbridge and Falkirk.
“That’s why Cumbernauld Family Hub is seeking to recreate authentic cinema experiences for local citizens with its new state-of-the-art screen and movie equipment this year.
“Movie days for adults have been hosted every month since February, with many parents, carers, friends and individuals participating in the fun and friendly cinema events at Cornerstone House.
“As well as The Greatest Showman, other films being planned for screening at Cornerstone House this year include Last Vegas, Marigold Hotel, High Society and It’s a Wonderful Life.
“Tickets must be booked in advance but are free of charge, providing parents on lower incomes with an opportunity to come along to an organised community event without the pressures of financial burdens.
“We look forward to welcoming adults for what we anticipate will be an entertaining and enjoyable day facilitated in a friendly and informal environment.”
The movie fun is not just for adults though, with free cinema days for children and families also in the pipeline for the school September weekend and October week holiday. Indeed, these are just part of a range of activities and sessions being scheduled for families at Cornerstone House during term-time and school holidays for the remainder of 2022.
