Support is available for individuals and families in Cumbernauld and surrounding areas who may be short on food or company during the upcoming Christmas week, thanks to the efforts of some excellent local volunteer-involving organisations.
Bethlehem House of Bread Food Bank, a Cumbernauld organisation which provides food parcels, toiletries and other necessary items to those in poverty or facing crisis situations, has several Christmas food parcels available and individuals with a referral can collect one of these by visiting Cornerstone House Centre (at 1 Esk Walk, Cumbernauld, G67 1BZ) on Thursday 26 December 2019 (Boxing Day) from 12noon-1.30pm.
The Food Bank, thanks to the kind donations of many local people and agencies, has excelled itself in distributing more than 130 food parcels to individuals and families living in Cumbernauld during December 2019. The volunteer-led organisation offers a regular weekly provision at Cornerstone House Centre every Thursday (5.00pm-7.30pm usual time, Boxing Day time is 12noon-1.30pm) and every Friday from 11.00am-12.30pm at Cumbernauld Old Parish Church (Baronhill, Cumbernauld, G67 2SB) and Condorrat Parish Church (at 62 Main Road, Cumbernauld, G67 4DZ). Food Bank referrals can be obtained through establishing contact with Scottish Welfare Fund.
Elsewhere, Carbrain and Hillcrest Community Council have advised that a handful of places have become available for a Christmas Day Lunch which is being hosted at the Free Church (140 Kilbowie Road, Cumbernauld, G67 2BY) on Wednesday 25 December 2019 from 1.00pm-3.00pm. This is targeted at specifically individuals and families who may be lonely or in need of a hot meal on Christmas Day. The few remaining places will be offered on a first come first served basis. For more information on this and booking details, please visit Carbrain and Hillcrest Community Council’s Facebook page.
For those requiring care support, a Christmas Day meal is taking place at St Patrick’s Church (30 Low Craigends, Kilsyth, G65 0PF) on Wednesday 25 December 2019 from 1.00pm-5.00pm. This incorporates a four-course meal, wine, a raffle and Christmas gift. For further information, please contact Anne Russell on 01236 821758.
Meanwhile, Cornerstone Christian Fellowship has extended an open invitation to the Cumbernauld community to attend its Christmas Service on Sunday 22 December 2019 at 11.00am at Cornerstone House Centre. Formed in 1983, Cornerstone Christian Fellowship is a Bible-believing community-focussed church. This year’s Christmas Service will include a special message delivered by the church’s Glo Gang.
Over the festive period, Cornerstone House Centre will be open for business as usual up until and including Tuesday 24 December 2019. A Christmas close down will then take place, with the organisation reopening on Monday 6 January 2020. Service users or partners requiring to establish contact with the organisation during the close down period can email admin@cornerstone-house.org.uk.
