A fun-filled fortnight of free events is being provided for children and families during the upcoming spring school holidays in Cumbernauld town centre, with activities scheduled including Creative Kids, Adult Arts and Crafts and a Family Movie Day.
Creative Kids, taking place on Friday 5 April 2024 from 1.00pm-3.00pm at Cornerstone House (1 Esk Walk, Cumbernauld, G67 1BZ), is an arts and crafts session which encourages parents and children to get creative together. Meanwhile, you’re never too old to have some creative fun, with Adult Arts and Crafts scheduled for Thursday 11 April 2024 from 1.00pm-3.00pm at the same venue.
And a free movie treat is being provided for children and families as the popular Cornerstone Movie Days return for the final day of the school holidays courtesy of Cumbernauld Family Hub. The planned children’s entertainment will have an animated theme, with the Walt Disney romantic comedy classic film Elemental showing on a large cinema screen at Cornerstone House on Friday 12 April 2024 at 1.00pm, with the movie running time being 101 minutes.
Set in a world inhabited by anthropomorphic elements of nature, the story follows fire element Ember Lumen (Lewis) and water element Wade Ripple (Athie), who spend time together in the city while trying to save a convenience store owned by Ember’s father, Bernie (Del Carmen). The movie is rated PG (Parental Guidance), meaning that whilst content should not unsettle a child aged around eight or older, parents are advised to consider whether younger or more sensitive children may experience upset.
Places at all three sessions will be provided on a first come first served basis and must be booked in advance by emailing events@cornerstone-house.org.uk. Please state in your email how many children and adults will be attending, the ages of the children and any special requirements.
School holiday activities have been a successful part of the Cornerstone House Centre’s service delivery since 2017. Nikki Main, Project Coordinator for Cumbernauld Family Hub at Cornerstone House Centre, commented:
“Cumbernauld Family Hub is delighted to be able to provide its latest helping of school holiday events and activities for local children and families during April 2024.
“For the Family Movie Day, children are invited to come along with a parent or guardian for a 1.00pm start , with the Family Hub once again seeking to recreate authentic cinema experiences for local children and families.
“Tickets for Creative Kids and Adult Arts and Crafts must be booked in advance but are free of charge, providing parents on lower incomes with an opportunity to bring their children to fun, safe and organised family events without the pressures of financial burdens.
“We look forward to welcoming local families for what we anticipate will be entertaining and enjoyable days facilitated in a friendly and informal environment.”
Cumbernauld Family Hub, supported by The National Lottery Community Fund, provides a fresh and innovative family support resource for the Cumbernauld area, incorporating a range of activities which create interesting and unique personal development opportunities for local families. The Hub is operated by Cornerstone House Centre and has supported over 300 parents and children since its establishment seven years ago.
The action-packed Easter is just part of a range of Family Hub activities being scheduled for families at Cornerstone House Centre during 2024. Kids Can Cook Cafe, where parents and children are supported to make simple meals together, is being planned for later in the year, whilst Bookbug Sessions are also recommencing from April 2024 at Cornerstone House for parents with pre-school aged children.
