Children from all areas and schools of Cumbernauld celebrated the start of the school summer holidays in extra special fashion through participating in a fun, interactive and free ‘School’s Out Disco’ at Cornerstone House Centre.
The Disco, which took place on Tuesday 2 July 2019, was hosted as part of Cumbernauld Family Hub and involved an energetic afternoon of live entertainment, music, dancing and refreshments for children aged 2 to 12, with more than 50 local parents and children in attendance.
Entertainment was provided on the day by local radio station Cumbernauld FM, with popular DJ Steven Murray ensuring children and families were kept entertained with classic games such as musical statues, pass the parcel and musical islands. Children also took part in karaoke and a range of prizes were issued throughout the afternoon. Karen Lawson, Project Coordinator for Cumbernauld Family Hub, commented:
“It was excellent to see so many children and parents from the Cumbernauld area letting their hair down and having a great time at Cornerstone House Centre’s first ever ‘School’s Out Disco’.
“We are delighted that the event proved a real success, with highly positive feedback received from those in attendance. A huge thanks goes to Cumbernauld FM for their coordination of the music and entertainment and to Drop In Cafe for organising and providing catering.
“The Disco was just the first in a range of summer activities scheduled for children and families at Cornerstone House Centre during July and August.
“The ever-popular ‘Cornerstone Family Movie Days’ will return in the coming weeks with showings of the classic movies ‘Toy Story’ and ‘Nanny McPhee’ on Tuesday 23 July 2019 and Tuesday 6 August 2019 respectively.
“Children are invited to come along with a parent or guardian for a 12noon start time on both days, with children to be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the movie showings.
“Additionally, Creative Kids, an arts and crafts session which encourages parents and children to get creative together, is scheduled for Tuesday 16 July 2019 and Tuesday 13 August 2019, whilst a Games Day is also planned for Tuesday 30 July 2019. Each of these sessions run from 11.00am-1.00pm.
“Places must be booked in advance for all events and are free of charge, providing parents on lower incomes with an opportunity to bring their children to fun, safe and organised family events without the pressures of financial burdens.
“We look forward to welcoming local families for what we anticipate will be entertaining and enjoyable days facilitated in a friendly and informal environment.”
Such events are possible thanks to Cumbernauld Family Hub, a fresh and innovative family support resource for the Cumbernauld, Kilsyth and Northern Corridor area which incorporates a range of activities which create interesting and unique personal development opportunities for local families.
The Hub, supported by The National Lottery Community Fund, is operated by local social enterprise charity Cornerstone House Centre and has supported over 150 parents and children since its establishment in 2017.
