A special fortnight of free events is being provided for children and families during the upcoming spring school holidays in Cumbernauld town centre, with activities scheduled including Giant Games, Creative Kids and two cinema experiences.
Giant Games, taking place on Monday 3 April 2023 from 11.30am-2.00pm at Cornerstone House (1 Esk Walk, Cumbernauld, G67 1BZ), will enable youngsters to take part in colossal versions of popular games such as snakes and ladders, Connect Four, skittles and much more. Meanwhile, Creative Kids, an arts and crafts session which encourages parents and children to get creative together, is planned for Thursday 13 April 2023 from 11.30am-1.00pm at the same venue.
Furthermore, popular Cornerstone Family Movie Days are returning as part of Cumbernauld Family Hub, with the two classic children’s films being shown at Cornerstone House Wednesday 5 April 2023 and Wednesday 12 April 2023, both screening from 1.30pm.
Cumbernauld Family Hub, supported by The National Lottery Community Fund, provides a fresh and innovative family support resource for the Cumbernauld area, incorporating a range of activities which create interesting and unique personal development opportunities for local families. The Hub is operated by Cornerstone House Centre and has supported over 300 parents and children since its establishment in 2017.
Places at all four sessions will be provided on a first come first served basis and must be booked in advance by emailing events@cornerstone-house.org.uk. Please state in your email how many children and adults will be attending, the ages of the children and any special requirements.
School holiday activities have been a successful part of the project over the past five years. Karen Lawson, Project Coordinator for Cumbernauld Family Hub at Cornerstone House Centre, commented:
“Cumbernauld Family Hub is delighted to be able to provide its latest helping of school holiday events and activities for local children and families during April 2023.
“For the Movie Days, children are invited to come along with a parent or guardian for an 1.00pm start time on both days, with the actual films being shown due to be selected over the coming week or so based on feedback from local citizens.
“Both movies chosen will be classified as ‘U’ films, suitable for audiences aged four years and over. Children in attendance must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the movie showings.
“Tickets for Giant Games, Creative Kids and Movie Days must be booked in advance but are free of charge, providing parents on lower incomes with an opportunity to bring their children to fun, safe and organised family events without the pressures of financial burdens.
“We look forward to welcoming local families for what we anticipate will be entertaining and enjoyable days facilitated in a friendly and informal environment.”
The film showings are just part of a range of activities and sessions being scheduled for families at Cornerstone House Centre during 2023. Kids Can Cook Cafe, where parents and children are supported to make simple meals together, is being planned for later in the year, whilst Bookbug Sessions are also being regularly hosted this year at Cornerstone House for parents with pre-school aged children.
