Cornerstone House Centre is continuing its provision of free movie treats for Cumbernauld children and adults over the summer with screenings of the popular films Some Like It Hot and The Croods: A New Age during June and July.
The popular Cornerstone Family Movie Days have proved a huge hit with the people of Cumbernauld during the first half of 2022, with films such as Hop, Peter Rabbit and Gnomeo and Juliet entertaining children during school holidays and Mamma Mia!, Calamity Jane, Singin’ In The Rain and That Touch Of Mink providing afternoons of nostalgia for local adults.
The latest monthly old-school movie for adults being served up by Cumbernauld Family Hub is the classic romantic comedy Some Like It Hot, which will be shown on a large cinema screen on Friday 24 June 2022 at 1.00pm at Cornerstone House (1 Esk Walk, Cumbernauld, G67 1BZ).
The 1959 light-hearted film, which stars Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon, is about two musicians who disguise themselves by dressing as women to escape from mafia gangsters whom they witnessed committing a crime.
Meanwhile, if you’re a parent and struggling for ideas on how to entertain the kids for free during the school holidays, bringing them along to a special family screening of The Croods: A New Age at Cornerstone House on Wednesday 6 July 2022 at 1.00pm could be the ideal tonic. Released in cinemas in 2020, this computer-animated comedy movie features the Crood family travelling the world in search of a new home.
Places for both Movie Days will be provided on a first come first served basis and must be booked in advance by emailing events@cornerstone-house.org.uk. Please state in your email how many children and adults will be attending, the ages of the children and any special requirements. Karen Lawson, Project Coordinator for Cumbernauld Family Hub at Cornerstone House Centre, commented:
“Cumbernauld Family Hub is delighted to announce details of the latest of its Cornerstone Family Movie days for children and adults over the coming weeks.
“For The Croods: A New Age, children are invited to come along with a parent or guardian for a 1.30pm start on Wednesday 6 July 2022, with Cornerstone House Centre seeking to recreate an authentic cinema experience for families on the day.
“The movie is classified as a ‘PG’ film, which means that the film is suitable for general viewing but parental guidance is advised. As such, children in attendance must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the screening.
“Tickets must be booked in advance but are free of charge, providing parents on lower incomes with an opportunity to bring their children to a fun, safe and organised family event without the pressures of financial burdens.
“We look forward to welcoming local children and adults for what we anticipate will be entertaining and enjoyable days facilitated in a friendly and welcoming environment.”
The children’s Movie Day is just one of a range of activities and sessions being scheduled for families at Cornerstone House during the summer break from school this year.
Creative Kids, a fun and informal arts and crafts session which encourages parents and children to get creative together, is also returning on Thursday 14 July 2022 at 11.00am at Cornerstone House. Further information and places for this can also be booked by emailing events@cornerstone-house.org.uk. Additionally, weekly Bookbug Sessions for parents with pre-school aged children will recommence at Cornerstone House on Thursday 25 August 2022 at 11.15am.
These free events are made possible as a result of Cumbernauld Family Hub, which is an innovative family support resource for the Cumbernauld area supported by The National Lottery Community Fund. The Family Hub has supported over 300 parents and children since its establishment in 2017, and has been successful in helping create bonds between people facing similar problems and building bridges that assist understanding and interaction in relation to family development.
