A high profile international celebration of women from all backgrounds will be coordinated through a very special TEDx Cumbernauld Women event taking place at Cornerstone House Centre next month.
Started in 1984, TED is a global non-profit movement which aims to inspire people through the form of short, powerful talks. A TEDx event is an independently-organised local gathering where TED-like talks and performances are shared with the community.
TEDx Cumbernauld Women, taking place on Thursday 5 December 2019, will involve a number of respected, renowned and successful female speakers from all over the world taking to the Cornerstone House Centre stage to give motivational and discussion-provoking talks on a range of issues affecting women in today’s society. A full day’s programme of talks, engagement and connections will be facilitated on the day from 9.30am-5.30pm.
The event, which has a theme of ‘bold and brilliant’, is being led by award winning filmmaker Maureen Hascoet, with support from a skilled TEDx Cumbernauld Women organising team which includes master of ceremonies Diane Goldberg, volunteer coordinator Pam Shaw, Cumbernauld FM DJ Steven Murray and speaker coach Jojo Fraser.
Confirmed speakers, amongst others, include humanology expert Wendy Chalmers, actor Glynis Wozniak, mindset coach Mhairi Murray, psychotherapist Angela Trainer, author Ntsiki Mkhize and maternal mental health activist Kirsty Learmonth. They will each address a packed Cumbernauld audience which will range from stay-at-home mums to business owners.
Mary McNeil, Development Manager at Cornerstone House Centre, commented: “As a Community Anchor Organisation for Cumbernauld, Cornerstone House Centre shares the positive values of the TED movement which focus on the power of ideas changing attitudes and developing communities for good through global collaboration.
“Our charity believes in empowering local citizens with a view to establishing prosperous communities, healthier and happier people, quality services and facilities and ultimately a thriving Cumbernauld.
“As such, Cornerstone House Centre is delighted and excited to be the host venue for the first ever TEDx Cumbernauld Women event this December. It promises to be a fantastic and inspirational day for all in attendance.
“A high quality programme has been scheduled which will cover a range of topics relevant and of interest to women living in Cumbernauld, such as community activism, mental health, the arts, recovery, feminism, relationships, achieving potential and entrepreneurship.
“With other focuses also including parenthood and personal development, the event is of particular interest to the work and people of Cumbernauld Family Hub, a local initiative facilitated by Cornerstone House Centre.”
The main event sponsors for TEDx Cumbernauld Women are The Village Gallery, Cumbernauld FM, Sanctuary Scotland, Carbrain and Hillcrest Community Council, Light of Louise and The Corra Foundation.
TEDx Cumbernauld Women is a ticket-only event which forms part of a global network of TED events taking place in December, including a main TED Women Conference 2019 being hosted in Palm Springs, California, United States, from 4-6 December 2019.
