Could you do with a free and relaxing treat in Cumbernauld town centre one afternoon when the kids are at school? If so, look no further than Cornerstone House Centre’s upcoming September Movie Day for adults.
Cumbernauld Family Hub will be showing the old-school musical romantic comedy High Society free of charge on a large cinema screen on Friday 30 September 2022 at 1.30pm at Cornerstone House (1 Esk Walk, Cumbernauld, G67 1BZ).
The vintage 1956 movie, which stars Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly and Frank Sinatra, sees playboy composer CK Dexter-Haven attempt to reclaim his beautiful ex-wife Tracy Lord before she marries another, with cynical reporter Mike Connor also caught up in the romantic complications.
Places for the Movie Day will be provided on a first come first served basis and must be booked in advance by emailing events@cornerstone-house.org.uk. Please state in your email how many adults will be attending and if you have any special requirements. Karen Lawson, Project Coordinator for Cumbernauld Family Hub at Cornerstone House Centre, commented:
“In this month’s movie, Frank Sinatra famously asks: ‘Who wants to be a millionaire?’ Celeste Holm, who plays alongside Sinatra, replies ‘I don’t’.
“We might not be able to bring you a fortune, but we do hope to once again welcome adults to our community-owned building for another fun afternoon of entertainment, laughter and relaxation later this month.
“High Society is the latest in a string of film treats provided by Cornerstone House Centre for Cumbernauld citizens, following showings of The Greatest Showman, Pillow Talk, Some Like It Hot, Singin’ In The Rain, Mamma Mia!, Calamity Jane and That Touch of Mink over the past six months.
“One of Hollywood’s most elegant films, September’s screening is undoubtedly an exciting, jazzy, toe-tapping classic. Definitely one to take those of a certain era down memory lane!
“Our popular Movie Days are made possible thanks to a state-of-the-art contemporary digital cinema projection screen that was fitted last year within Cornerstone House. This can also be utilised by organisations and individuals across Greater Cumbernauld for other community purposes upon request.
“Cumbernauld Family Hub is seeking to recreate authentic cinema experiences for local people, and we hope to bring some cheer to those facing challenging times at the moment due to the cost of living crisis and the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The movie fun is not just for adults though, with free cinema days for children and families also in the pipeline for the October week holiday. Indeed, these are just part of a range of activities and sessions being scheduled for families at Cornerstone House during term-time and school holidays for the remainder of 2022.
Meanwhile, parents can also tap into other key resources provided by Cornerstone House Centre as part of Cumbernauld Family Hub. Examples of free activities currently provided include Bookbug, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and Living Life to the Full.
Family Hub activities, which are made possible thanks to investment from The National Lottery Community Fund, are planned to be informal, practical and interrelated, making the learning fun and interactive. In particular, services are tailored to benefit those experiencing difficulties as a result of factors such as poverty, housing problems, relationship issues, lack of educational attainment and unemployment.
