As a mark of respect, Cornerstone House Centre will close its community-owned building at 1 Esk Walk, Cumbernauld, G67 1BZ all day on Monday 19 September 2022, the date of the state funeral of Her Majesty The Queen.
A UK bank holiday was announced by King Charles III for the day of the funeral of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, at Westminster Abbey in London.
Schools, colleges and universities will also close along with many shops and visitor attractions. A period of national mourning will end on Monday after the state funeral for Britain’s longest reigning monarch, who died at her Balmoral Castle residence last week.
The funeral will be aired live at 11.00am across most television channels, including BBC, STV and Sky News. While most of the public spaces in Scotland will be closed for the funeral, some community spaces plan to open to allow people to watch the funeral together.
The service for Her Majesty The Queen will be broadcast live on a big screen in Holyrood Park, Edinburgh, in front of the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Some churches will also screen the funeral from Westminster Abbey, including the Tron Church on Bath Street, Glasgow.
Most cinemas across Scotland will be closed all day on Monday, but some cinemas will live stream the funeral. Vue cinemas across Scotland have offered free bookable tickets to a live screening of the ceremony in London.
Cornerstone House Centre will resume normal operations at 9.00am on Tuesday 20 September 2022, and offers apologies to organisations and service users that had intended to use the building this Monday.
