Tool Library Cumbernauld, a social enterprise which enables people to borrow manual tools, has announced extended opening hours within Cornerstone House Centre’s Community Space facility, including Saturday provision.
The innovative organisation provides quality tools and equipment for a range of purposes, including DIY, gardening, crafts, sports and kitchen usage, with local citizens able to join the Tool Library for an annual fee and borrow suitable items of equipment throughout the year. Low and zero waste household products, such as refills of washing-up liquid and hand soap, are also available to buy.
The charity has an overarching aim of reducing the waste that is sent to landfill by encouraging people to borrow items that are infrequently used, providing low and zero waste products locally and raising awareness of waste issues and solutions.
Visitors to Cornerstone House Centre’s Community Space, located at Unit 14 of Antonine Shopping Centre, can now drop in and easily access Tool Library Cumbernauld every Monday (12noon-4.00pm), Thursday (12noon-6.00pm), Friday (12noon-4.00pm) and Saturday (10.00am-1.00pm), with an open invitation extended to all.
Tool Library Cumbernauld is an excellent initiative that not only contributes positively to environmental issues by reducing waste, but also allows Cumbernauld citizens to save money by being able to borrow often expensive tools and items which may only be used or needed once or twice.”
The Community Space, opened in August 2019, is a partnership initiative between Cornerstone House Centre and Antonine Shopping Centre with a view to improving health and wellbeing in the Cumbernauld area. It forms part of a wider Cumbernauld Community Health Information Hub which was launched by Cornerstone House Centre on behalf of Health and Social Care North Lanarkshire earlier this year.
A central feature of The Community Space is a dedicated ‘Ping Pong Parlour’, where local people can play table tennis for free. It also incorporates a ‘Light Bites Station’ where visitors can have a seat and buy tea, coffee, refreshments and snacks at affordable prices.
