Cornerstone House Centre is encouraging local citizens to vote for its proposal to deliver a vibrant two-part series of awareness raising events for families living in Kilsyth and surrounding villages to be awarded public funding.
In Summer 2024, Community Empowerment NL invited community voluntary organisations working in North Lanarkshire communities to share their project ideas for funding. Cornerstone House Centre’s Reuniting and Reconnecting Kilsyth Families proposal for £5,000 is one of five Kilsyth and Villages-centred projects that has been shortlisted to be voted on to win public funding through an online Community Voting Survey.
The Survey, which can be accessed by clicking here, will ascertain which organisations receive funding to deliver specified projects to benefit the local area. The deadline for submission of the online Community Voting Survey is Wednesday 30 October 2024 at 12noon. Survey results will be made publicly available shortly after the closing date, with funds to be distributed to successful applicant organisations thereafter.
Those living in Kilsyth and others with an interest in the wider local community are asked to participate in the online Survey and vote for Cornerstone House Centre’s below highlighted proposal, which will take no longer than five minutes to complete.

CORNERSTONE HOUSE CENTRE’S PROPOSED ‘REUNITED AND RECONNECTING KILSYTH FAMILIES’ PROJECT
Reuniting and Reconnecting Kilsyth Families is being designed to facilitate several activities and information sharing events to help build positive and healthy family relationships across the town of Kilsyth and surrounding rural villages and hamlets.
The initiative aims to support local families who face social, economic, cultural and geographical disadvantages, including couples, single parents, kinship carers, children, and other caregivers. The project will be carried out in collaboration with local organisations.
The transformative event series aims to improve mental health, resilience and connections within families, notably those dealing with stress, anxiety and challenges arising from work, parenting, relationships and other aspects of life.
Furthermore, the series will focus on fostering stronger familial bonds, enhancing communication and providing tools for wellness. The ultimate goal is to create a supportive environment where families can thrive together, equipped with the skills and resources necessary to maintain connections and participate healthily in family and community life.
Taking into consideration a number of generational societal and health issues affecting families in the local area, there will be a focus on targeting participants experiencing issues such as unemployment, poverty, a lack of confidence and motivation, an inability to concentrate, difficulties in trusting people, an inability to make or sustain family relationships and friendships, and feelings of isolation, frustration and anxiety.
Moreover, through a strategic partnership approach, harder-to-reach family members will be actively engaged including people experiencing abuse, spouses dealing with domestic violence, those facing addictions, people going through bereavement, individuals who are victims of crime and people experiencing eating disorders, and those facing relationship or parenting difficulties. Crucially, the programme will benefit local citizens who recognise that mental health challenges are having a variety of negative effects on their family life.
Focussing on a theme of ‘healthy minds, happy homes’, the first of two planned project events will be held in early 2025. This seminar will focus on increasing awareness of mental health issues and providing practical strategies for families to support each other’s mental wellbeing.
Taking place a few weeks later, the second event will be structured as a family unity and wellness festival. This festival will seek to involve as many of the family participants from the first event as possible as well as new participants. It will seek to celebrate the importance of family bonds and offer practical tools to help families strengthen their relationships and support each other’s mental health.
