Once again, it is that time of the year when everybody gets ready for the upcoming holiday season. The time to plan your family celebrations, arrange festivities with friends or relatives, attend the office holiday functions, take some time out from work, school or studies.
As the year draws to a close, Cornerstone House Centre would like to thank all its service users, partners, supporters and funders for their trust and successful collaboration during the past year. Indeed, it is thanks to your support that the organisation has taken a giant leap forward in establishing itself as a recognisable, highly respected and influential organisation in the Cumbernauld area during 2019.

A Year of Real Achievement, Great Memories and Strides Forward for Cornerstone House Centre
It is with great pleasure that Cornerstone House Centre is able to reflect on 2019 as a year in which the organisation finalised the purchase of the large community asset building at 1 Esk Walk in Cumbernauld town centre – a huge landmark for not only Cornerstone House Centre but also for the wider Cumbernauld community. Moreover, this year there were over 40,000 individual visits to Cornerstone House Centre’s community building. These outstanding statistics highlight that The Centre has become an extremely important and niche hub for the community, with many voluntary, public and private sector agencies benefiting as well as those accessing their services.
The year has also seen a successful delivery of Years 2 and 3 of Cumbernauld Family Hub, a three-year National Lottery Community Fund supported project which strives to provide a raft of free resources, provision and development opportunities for families living in the Cumbernauld area. Launched in May 2017, several significant and positive impacts of Cumbernauld Family Hub became clearly evident as 2019 progressed. This included notable outcomes for parents, children and family members in terms of personal and skills development, health and wellbeing, parent-child bonding, life balance, recovery and employability.
Meanwhile, February 2019 saw the launch of a ground-breaking new Cumbernauld Community Health Information Hub by The Centre on behalf of Health and Social Care North Lanarkshire. Throughout the year, as well as hosting focussed partnership events, the Health Information Hub has provided valuable health campaign information and signposting for a range of individuals and groups, including older people, carers, parents and guardians, people with disabilities and long term conditions, people facing mental health challenges and people on lower incomes.
As the summer arrived, so did a brand new Community Space for the people of Cumbernauld, launched in partnership by Cornerstone House Centre and Antonine Shopping Centre with a view to improving health and wellbeing in the Cumbernauld area. The Community Space, which is open four days per week at Unit 14 of Antonine Shopping Centre, includes a designated Ping Pong Parlour and Light Bites Station.
Other notable highlights of the year included Cornerstone House Centre becoming a Disability Confident Committed employer, the organisation’s hosting of a programme of successful Cornerstone Community Tea Dances, launch of a new interactive organisational website, delivery of a progressive Shopmobility pilot scheme for Cumbernauld town centre and the community building playing host to a high profile TEDx Cumbernauld Women event.
Last but by no means least, a special mention for two of The Centre’s most loyal and longstanding partners, Cornerstone Christian Fellowship and Cornerstone Café, who continued to work closely with and invaluably support the organisation’s aims and objectives during 2019. It was also a year of celebration for Cornerstone Café, who reached a milestone 10th anniversary of providing a relaxed and friendly café for the people of Cumbernauld to have a tea, coffee, bite to eat and a chat.
